The GVVT Archive was established by the late Brian Longworth to care for the many historical items generously donated to the Trust over the years. Today, a dedicated team of volunteers continues this work, cataloguing, preserving and interpreting our growing collection.

What we Collect

Some of the items we have been donated over the years include:

  • Photographs, negatives and slides
  • Timetables, maps and posters
  • Books and magazines
  • Staff uniforms and accessories
  • Bus Destination blinds
  • Tickets and ticket machines
  • Company records
  • Glasgow Standard Tram destination equipment
  • Glasgow Underground communications equipment

Thanks to supporters of the Trust, we were able to install rolling shelving, allowing us to store these items safely, securely and efficiently.

Visiting the Archive

Many items from the collection are displayed in our Archive Museum, which is open to visitors during our Open Days – including Super Sundays and the Annual Open Weekend. These displays offer a fascinating insight into Glasgow’s transport heritage and the people who helped shape it.
